her only grandchild.  Since the ratio between the son's and the grandson's
inheritance was 8:2, how much did each receive (with the son receiving the
lion's share)?

        8x = the son's inheritance
        2x = the grandson's inheritance


        10x = 375,000

        x = 37,500

        8x = $300,000 (son's inheritance)
        2x =  $75,000 (grandson's inheritance)
